While many of the following websites are not specifically focused on cancer, some of the information may be useful for caregivers of cancer patients. The following organizations are intende only as resources and are not affiliated with or endorsed by Southeast Treatment Center.

American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem through research, education, advocacy and service.

American Society of Clinical Oncology

ASCO provides current information for oncologists and cancer patients as well as an oncologist referral service.

Cancer Care, Inc.

Cancer Care is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide free professional help to people with cancer through counseling, education, information and referral, and direct financial assistance.

CancerNet - National Cancer Institute

CancerNet is operated by the National Cancer Institute, the federal government's principal agency for cancer research. The NCI is a component of the National Institutes of Health, the focal point for the nation's biomedical research, and the goal of CancerNet is to provide recent and accurate cancer information from the NCI's research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs.

Cancer Research Institute

Cancer Research Institute, a nonprofit cancer research organization, provides the latest research news.

Medicine Online Cancer Glossary

This extensive glossary was compiled to provide a better understanding of words and terms frequently used in cancer care. The definitions were compiled by the Nursing Advisory Board of Pharmacia & Upjohn Company.

National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization

NHPCO explains the hospice philosophy and provides a list of hospice programs around the country.

National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship

The NCCS, comprised of cancer patients and survivors, directs programs and lobbying efforts for all types of cancer. The group also produces widely recommended support material, which can be purchased at the online store. This site is also available in Spanish.

Oncology.com

This site offers information for cancer patients, caregivers and oncologists. Features for patients and their families include information on treatment, managing side effects, drugs and medical terms, and risk assessment. The site also has a search function for clinics and physicians and a "Cancer Buddies" support group. Oncologist will find the latest research news, treatment advice and information on clinical trials.

Patient-Centered Guides

This site contains information on symptoms, diagnosis, support, books and online reference materials. O'Reilly & Associates created this site based on several books it publishes on many types of cancer. The books and guides can be ordered online.

The Wellness Community

This site offers emotional support, education and encouragement for cancer patients and their loved ones through support groups, educational workshops, lectures, and stress management sessions.

Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment.

Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal Cancer Network

This site offers support for colorectal cancer patients and their loved ones.

Kidney Cancer

Kidney Cancer Association

The Kidney Cancer Association is a membership organization comprised of patients, family members, physicians, researchers and other health professionals. The site includes information on research, drug trials and public policy.

Leukemia & Lymphoma

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

This organization has locations throughout the country and provides thorough medical and psychological resources for blood-related cancers. The site features educational materials, research news, a listing of chapters and other patient services.

Lymphoma Research Foundation of America

LRFA creates and supports research for more effective treatments and an ultimate cure for lymphoma. The group's site features educational information for patients and professionals, as well as the latest research news and clinical trials. It also sponsors a helpline, a patient-to-patient program and local seminars.

Lung Cancer

American Lung Association

The American Lung Association's site contains detailed information on lung cancer, including prevention, detection and treatment.

Lung Cancer Awareness Campaign

The goals of this public awareness campaign are to promote better diagnosis and treatment of the disease, raise money for research, publicize new treatments and provide support to patients. The site features personal accounts, facts, statistics and additional resources.

Multiple Myeloma

Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation

This group is dedicated to raising awareness and research money for multiple myeloma; the site provides information for patients and physicians.

Ovarian Cancer

Conversations: The International Ovarian Cancer Connection

This site provides tips for coping with the side effects of ovarian cancer and its treatment, as well as information on risk factors, new treatments and book reviews.

Ovarian Cancer National Alliance

OCNA targets physicians and patients with information on types of treatment, coping with ovarian cancer, the latest clinical trials and efforts to increase funding. The group also provides medical alert cards with facts and symptoms of ovarian cancer, which can be ordered online.

Prostate Cancer

US TOO! International, Inc.

US TOO! is a large, independent charitable network of support groups for men with prostate cancer and their families. The group offers peer counseling, fellowship, education about treatment options, and discussion of medical alternatives. US TOO! also seeks to increase public awareness and funding for prostate cancer.

Oral, Head and Neck Cancer

Oral Cancer Information Center

This site includes information for oral cancer patients and healthcare professionals. Topics for patients include coping, causes, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and humor. Physicians and nurses will find information on case studies, news, detection and rehabilitation.

Support for People with Oral, Head and Neck Cancer

Founded by an oral cancer survivor, this self-help organization addresses the emotional, physical and humanistic needs of oral, head and neck cancer patients. Because this type of cancer can profoundly affect appearance and speech, meeting the patients' complex psychological needs is a primary objective of this group.

Caregiver resources

Caregiving.com

This site provides resources, products, and an online community for caregivers of aging loved ones. It is associated with The Center for Family Caregivers, a non-profit organization, and Tad Publishing Co., which publishes related newsletters, books and manuals.

CareGuide

CareGuide is a care management company helping people at every stage of the aging process (from children to elders) by providing families with personalized solutions and support in the daily process of caring.

ElderWeb

ElderWeb is a family and professional resource for eldercare and long-term care issues.

Family Caregiver Alliance

The Family Caregiver Alliance is a community-based nonprofit organization formed to address the needs of families and friends who are providing long-term care at home.

National Alliance for Caregiving

The National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) supports family caregivers of the elderly and the professionals who serve them. This nonprofit joint venture includes three main partners—the American Society on Aging, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging.

Look Good ... Feel Better

Look Good ... Feel Better is a free, national public service program dedicated to teaching women cancer patients beauty techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image during cancer treatment. This site offers tips, advice and a list of programs. It is also available in Spanish.

National Lymphedema Network

Lymphedema is a painful swelling caused by a buildup of lymphatic fluid and can be a side effect of lymph node removal—a surgery often used to treat cancer. This group provides education and guidance to patients and healthcare professionals.

Plastic Surgery Information Service

This site offers information on breast reconstruction surgery for breast cancer patients, treatment options for skin cancer patients and a plastic surgeon referral service.
